Studying at NMLL: What you need to knowStudent Selection and Enrolment ProceduresAs part of the enrolment process, all prospective students are interviewed by an NMLL staff member. At this meeting, the individual student's learning needs are discussed and assessed, ensuring placement in an appropriate class. Once a suitable course and time has been found, the student is assisted through the enrolment procedure.
Fees and RefundsCourse and amenties fees must be paid prior to commencing a course. Fee rates may differ according to the individual's residency status and whether or not they hold a concession card. For detailed information, please refer to the NMLL Schedule of Fees and Charges. In cases of hardship, students may be exempt from fees in accordance with NMLL policy. To apply for an exemption please contact the Further Education Coordinator by email or on 9326 7447. If a student wishes to withdraw from a course, and does so within four weeks of commencement, they may apply for a refund by submitting a Withdrawal and Refund Form. Refunds are made in accordance with the NMLL Refunds Policy. For further information please contact the Further Education Coordinator by email or on 9326 7447. Mutual Recognition and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)Where a student has a certificate or a statement of attainment from another Registered Training Organisation (RTO), NMLL practices mutual recognition. If a student has experience or other formal training related to their course, they may also consider applying for RPL and may be given credit for selected modules. Assessment and Certificates AwardedAt NMLL, students are assessed in accordance with the training guidelines set by the Victorian ESL Framework and the Certificates in Spoken and Written English (for AMEP students). A range of methods are used to assess students, including interviews, participation in group discussions and activities , reading and writing and role play. Certificates and Statements of Attainment are issued in accordance with units of competency attained. Student Support and ServicesNMLL's Community Development Worker is responsible for pastoral care. Where possible, sh/e will refer students on to relevant legal, housing, health, social, community or education services. Referrals are made at no cost and, wherever possible, students are connected with agencies that provide free or low-cost services. For assistance please speak with a staff member or call 9326 7447. |
